Why the gardens duel

Dueling Gardens is a community garden located in the small town of Picture Rocks, Arizona.  There are two gardens within the garden; one is a traditional garden (plants in the ground), the other is a container garden.  The intent is to monitor water usage, growth rate, and product quality between the two gardens.

From the install date, August 10, 2011 to September 7, 2011 the traditional garden had used 1,650 gallons of water as opposed to 410 gallons for the container garden.

The garden is a way of learning to grow vegetables in the desert and working together as a group for the good of the community. The way the economy is going we may be needing to grow a lot of our own food and help each other along in the years to come.
